About The Department

Initially, B.Com (Information System and Management) degree, was offered by  the Commerce Department, in the year 2002.Later The degree was transformed  as B.Sc. (Information System and Management).The University of Madras at present offers the degree as B.Com ISM from 2012. Mrs. H. Padmavathy was the first Head of the Department. Presently, Mr. Lingappan is heading the department who is assisted by 4 qualified staff members and one lab assistant.

The Department works to facilitate an educational environment in which students are prepared to meet the challenges of modern industrial society by equipping them with technical knowledge, practical skills, and innovative thoughts in the Computer & Management field and also to promote research, development and testing environment to meet ever-changing and ever-demanding needs of the IT Industry.

The department imparts knowledge, skills, positive attitude and ethical values through innovative and interactive methods of learning. The students are trained to have the expertise to face the fast-changing environment successfully.

The department aims at maintaining academic excellence and equipping students with the skills necessary to face the challenges of the business world. It includes various specialization papers in commerce and Computer subjects, maintaining good interaction with industry and institutions. It highlights the concepts and skills for Accounting and Computer Applications. The curriculum represents the course response to evolve accountancy and computer techniques. After successful completion of their degree, the students of ISM are eligible to get admission into MCA, M.Sc (IT), MBA, MA (HRM), M.Com. The department along with the Management Studies department conducts various seminars, of which one was presided by the Registrar, University of Madras. The department takes its pride in having the highest number of University rank holders.

Students are required to do an Internship training course for a month in a company that helps them to gain practical knowledge. They also undertake ‘project’ in their sixth semester which would develop their knowledge and practical research work

Our department students have participated in various intercollegiate competitions and have  won many prizes. The students are well-trained and well-groomed to be placed in IT, ITES and MNC companies.
