Extension as the third dimension of the institutions of  higher education apart from earlier two fold dimesion i.e. ‘Teaching’ and ‘Research’, aims to promote a meaningful and sustained rapport between the colleges/University and the community.

Extension is a compulsory activity in the curriculum of Higher Education Institute.  Extension is meant for application of acquired knowledge in the class room by the students in the real life situation.

In pursuance of National Policy on Education 1986 extension activities must be made compulsory activities in all Higher Education Institutes.

SIVET College  started implementing  NSS activities in the year 1980. II unit began to function in 2003 and  III unit for women in 2005.Each unit must enroll 100 volunteers and now  our college has three units  with 300 volunteers.

We take pride that Ms. K. Kavitha III B.A Economics participated in  the Republic Day parade  in 2007.  Around 600 variety of Saplings were planted within the campus and in  the campus of  adopted schools.  More than  18 health Camps such as Eye, Dental, general health , were  organised for the benefits of both students and general public in the adopted villages.

Our volunteers have undertaken various programs such as, tank cleaning ,rally against tobacco, rainwater harvesting, literacy awareness, voter awareness ..,etc.

The Primary aim of NSS is to  acquire Personality of students through community service. According  to motto “NOT ME BUT YOU” our volunteers are doing yeomen service for the cause of the society. By way of undertaking such out- reach programmes, the students  are made  to understand and appreciate the rural problems which ultimately, inculcate the  leadership quality in them.

National Cadet Corps:

Associate NCC Officer:  Lt I.PRITHIVI RAJ, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics

The  NCC  subunit of the college had its inception in the year 1969 and was attached to the signals battalion. Major R.Ratnakumar, lecturer S.G, and Head, Department of Chemistry is the first Company Commander and had served till 1999.

He was followed by Lt.S.Ravibalan, Associate professor and Head, Department of  English, who took charge and led the 6th Company of 1 TN BN NCC till 2011. Under his sincere leadership, the cadets performed well and won many colourful feathers to the crest of SIVET NCC.

At present after Lt I.PRITHIVI RAJ Assistant Professor, Department of Physics assumed charge as Associate NCC officer and discharges duties as the Company Commander since 2014 serving the office as care-taker for two years and after successful completion of PRCN at OTA Kamptee.

As a routine practice, the cadets are performing well and give tough challenges to other college cadets in selections and competitions at camps and intercollegiate activities. Every year the cadets participate in the competitions such as Cadofest, Cadogreen, ThiegaFestat the intercollegiate level, and have brought laurels in the form of banners or shields and trophies.

Based on the performance, the DDG office came forward to sanction an amount of one lakh (1, 00,000) rupees for having an obstacle training course of our own. The management was highly co-operative and they even came forward to shell out an amount of Rs 65,000 (sixty five thousand) for the completion of an “A” grade obstacle course. The credit in completing the construction goes to our beloved secretary of the college Thiru. Dr.G. Selvanathan B.E. MBA., Ph.D.

The sub unit was able to maintain a good rapport with the private sector as well as defence sector. Cadets who had served for the full three years were given the privilege to get recruited into private sectors. During the NCC day celebrations, dignitaries from the companies were invited as chief guest and a mock passing out parade were conducted. Overwhelmed by their performance and disciplinary behaviours the company were happy to recruit them.

NCC has adopted community development activities with the aim of imbibing amongst cadets’ selfless service to the community, dignity of labour, importance of self-help; need to protect the environment and to assist weaker sections of the society in their upliftment. This was envisaged through programmes involving Adult-education, Tree plantation, Blood donation, Anti Dowry Rally, Anti Female Infanticide Pledge, Anti Leprosy Drive, AIDS Awareness Rally, Visit to Old Age Homes, Slum clearance, Disaster Management & Relief and Village upliftment and various other social schemes.

During this year 2019-2020 the college unit conducted many social awareness programmes and adventurous activities. Some of them are Blood Donations Camps, Adoption of Villages and creating awareness against pollution, Rallies against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking, and frequent SwatchBharat activities at Tambaram Railway Station. The cadets have been doing wonders both at the regional level and national level.

Citizen Consumer Club of S.I.V.E.T. College was established to create awareness about consumer rights among the students, Interested students can enroll and actively participate to educate the general public regarding their rights & responsibilities as stated in Consumer Protection Act.

  • To make them aware of the common violations of consumer rights.
  • To expand the responsibility of the consumers to exercise their rights against unfair trade practices.

Activities such a workshops/seminars/ essay writing contests/ debates and various awareness programs are being organized by the club so as to accomplish its goal.
