About The Department
The Department of Biochemistry was started in the year 1993. It has gradually grown from the Under Graduate course to Post Graduate Course in 1998. At present, the Department has seven extremely devoted and skilled faculty members, and one laboratory Assistant, headed by Dr. V. Srinivasan.
The department has the state of the art laboratory to conduct experiments effectively. The Department aims at promoting academic excellence, personality development, systematic and scientific temper in students. It aims to enhance the quality of life through Medical care and disease prevention measures. Also the department is dedicated to provide a platform for young minds to diverge and evolve profoundly in the area of molecular life science.
As the department has its concern over the environment and healthy life, it regularly conducts programmes & symposiums to create awareness about the environment and requirements of healthy living. The department has a club for this cause named ‘Enviro Club’ which regularly conducts meetings on health and environmental aspects. It also took initiative in planting and maintaining herbal plants inside the campus. The club also ensures to keep the campus clean.
The students of this Department have participated in intercollegiate competitions and won many prizes. This Department has to its credit of conducting an intercollegiate seminar on “Antioxidant and its control” in the year 2002-2003. Eminent persons are frequently invited to deliver lectures.
The department has to its credit many rank holders. Most of our students are pursuing research studies in prestigious universities both in India and abroad. Our students are well placed in various pharma and chemical companies.
