Department of Mathematics

Mathematics was introduced as a subject in the college at the Pre-University level in the year 1966. B.Sc., Mathematics degree course was introduced in the year 1971 and M.Sc Mathematics degree course was started in the year 1986.

The department has been recognized to conduct Ph.D., (Part-Time) programme under University of Madras since 2002. So far 17 Ph.D., scholars have obtained their Ph.D, degrees through the department. M.Phil., degree course (Full-Time) in Mathematics was started in the  year 2013 with  a sanctioned strength of 8 students .

The department is on a relentless march towards academic excellence. We cater to students who are economically very poor and most of whom are “first generation learners”. We hope and believe that we shall be able to do our work with greater sense of responsibility and sense of commitment to achieve our goals in the coming years. With the team of dedicated faculty, the department strives to equip the students with a strong foundation in basic Mathematical concepts and their applications, which will aid them to find jobs and also create interest to pursue research. The department conducts research activities in the areas of Geometric Function Theory and Graph Theory. Members of the department have participated, presented and published papers in several Conferences/Seminars/Workshops both  in National/International Journals. Some of our faculty members are reviewers and referees for National/ International Journals.

The Faculty   have had the honour of being External Examiner for the Viva-Voce of Ph.D candidates from University of Madras and other Universities.  Department has its members in various academic bodies like Board of studies, Affiliation committee, Academic council, Qualification approval committee etc. We Collaborate internationally Countries like Rumania, Malaysia, Iraq, Turkey, UK  and Egypt and jointly publish Research Papers.

Department of Mathematics organized a one day international conference on “Recent Advancements in Applied Mathematics” on 22^nd November, 2019 with participation of academicians and research scholars from various research institutions and colleges.

We have been consistently   producing  University rank holders both at PG level and UG level. Students are trained to get qualified through SLET/NET and are employed as teachers in Government/Aided/Private Colleges.

We also have a Strong Mathematics Association, a Forum for the students to bring out and develop their academic, leadership, co-curricular and extra –curricular talents. Our  department students actively take part in sports in both intra/inter collegiate events like Cricket, Table Tennis etc. and have won many prizes. The   department’s Alumni are well placed in government jobs, many others shine as lawyers, school teachers, entrepreneur and also a chartered accountants.
