About The Department

The Department of Botany, then Department of Natural Science, was started during the year 1973 – 74 with a teaching Staff and a Lab Assistant. Prof.Gajapathy, Asst. Prof. of Botany was the Head of the Department. Dr.G.Rajah joined here as Asst. Prof. of Botany and was in-charge of the Department. Botany as a subject was taught to the students of Pre-University Class from 1974-79. Later Botany was introduced as allied subject for B.Sc. Zoology students during the year 1979-80. Now Botany is being taught at Degree level with Dr.G.Rajah, HOD. After his retirement Tmt.Kayalvizhi is in charge of the Department.

There is a well equipped Botany laboratory with forty two compound Microscopes, two Binocular Microscopes and one Projection Microscope. We also have other necessary equipments to handle practical class for B.Sc. Botany (Major) students as well as PG Students. Each Student is given One Compound Microscope and One Dissection Microscope for doing practicals in the lab.

Our College is surrounded by shrub jungle on the hills with a vast Biodiversity. There are different varieties of Flora and Fauna which are of immense use to our students for practical. The college also has an herbal garden supervised by the Botany department and classes for environmental science are done by the in charge of the department for all the U.G.Students of the college.
