Sports
Personality is the reflection of individuality, and can be defined as the total quality of an individual’s behavior as revealed in his thought and expression, attitudes and interests and the manner of acting. To those who may of wonder what has sports (or) physical activities got to do with education in general, one is tempted to borrow Gandhi’s maxim to counter that thought namely “Physical training should have as much a place in the curriculum as mental training”. Gandhi’s comment on physical education has become an integral part of any enlightened academic programme. This is true in view of promoting sports not only through participation to develop and nurture talent but to meet the immediate objective of changing and developing society.
S.I.V.E.T. College since 1966 has been encouraging the importance of sports and games towards the total personality development of students. Prof.S.Janardhanam joined as the first Director of Physical Education. He was an outstanding sportsman and academician who rendered his services to the development of sports and games in the college. After his retirement in 1993, Prof.R. Saravanan was in charge of Sports and Games. Since 2000, the Department heads towards excellence under the stewardship of Dr.M.Pari. The Physical education department has a good infrastructure and conducts tournaments and matches equal to IPL matches. The 20 twenty matches have created an impinging effect on the reputation of the college. The teams from different elite colleges do participate in these matches.

An effective measure to provide equal opportunity and to enhance students’ participation, the Department conducts annually sports competitions for the benefit of students (both men and women students separately) with the winners being awarded with medallions of honour and certificates.
In regular attempts to spot talents, the Department of Physical education has ensured the welfare of the students by providing all necessary backup measures such as attendance and special leave in accordance with university norms to facilitate smooth academic progress.
Regular sports activities in the college have made our students to participate in various reputed matches and meets. They have proved their mettle by bringing laurels to our institution
In addition to the above mentioned excellence it is not beyond belief that this institution has made rapid strides to grow into an exemplary institution in sports and games. It has provided the minimum essential infrastructure to nurture talent and to deliver the goods with an integrated approach and leadership.

The department of physical education conducts the Madras University ‘A’ zone Cricket Matches and Table Tennis tournament and also conducts the Madras University ‘A’ zone Ball badminton coaching camps in our college campus on behalf of the Madras University.
A highly indicative hall mark of first rate institution is its facilities. The Department of Physical Education is yet again proud to state that with adequate backup measures of the College management, it has been able to provide the fullest facilities.
The institution and the managerial authorities of S.I.V.E.T. College provide first class priority to their students to compete.
The management promotes higher interest in sports through physical education and sports activities. The students’ active interactions with top sports personnel in the country shall make them realize that academic learning and extra-curricular activities are a part and parcel of the curricula.
